Why a plurality of Elders?
Jonestown Bible Church is an elder-led church because we believe Scripture clearly teaches that Christ is the Head of the church (Colossians 1:18) and that He has appointed a plurality of qualified elders to shepherd, teach, and oversee each local congregation. Throughout the New Testament, churches were consistently led by multiple elders rather than a single pastor (Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5; Acts 20:17), and these elders, also called overseers or pastors, are commanded to feed the flock through sound doctrine, protect the church from false teaching, pray for the sick, lead with humility, and care for God’s people as spiritual shepherds (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:1–3; Titus 1:9). A team of elders provides shared wisdom, accountability, and balanced leadership that reflects the diverse gifts God gives His church and guards against any one man having unchecked authority. This biblical model allows the congregation to be well cared for, spiritually nourished, and faithfully guided. At the same time, the elders serve not by compulsion or control but by example and love, equipping the saints for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11–12). For these reasons, Jonestown Bible Church joyfully follows the New Testament pattern of elder leadership as the most faithful and healthy structure for Christ’s church.

For this reason, we ask that all requests be submitted in writing to the Elder Board at least one week before their bi-weekly meeting. Submitting requests in writing ensures that every elder receives the same information. You may use the form below or pick up a form in the church office. Providing your request a week in advance gives the elders the necessary time to pray, study, investigate any related details, and thoughtfully consider the matter before the meeting.
